CENTCOM Forced to Move Personnel, Military Posture Changes after 13 U.S bases attacked in middle east

Iranian missile and drone attacks damaged key American bases in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, forcing the evacuation of personnel and changing American military strategy in the 2026 Middle East war.
The stability of US military operations in the Middle East is now being directly affected after missile and drone attacks by Iran and pro-Iranian groups rendered many of the 13 US military bases in the region virtually uninhabitable, forcing the evacuation of personnel and a reorganisation of CENTCOM's military posture in the ongoing war between the United States, Israel and Iran.
The New York Times reported that most bases used by American troops in the Middle East are now considered impractical for long-term occupancy after repeated attacks damaged buildings, communications systems, radars and support facilities, with Kuwait suffering the worst impact due to its proximity to Iran and the high concentration of American troops in the country
This situation forced thousands of American military personnel to be relocated to alternative locations including hotels, temporary office space and overseas facilities, while air operations continued from airstrips that remained functional, creating a hybrid operating model in which the bulk of the ground presence now operated remotely rather than from fortified bases.
Extensive damage to various military installations has transformed a previously stable network of forward bases into a fragmented and partially relocated posturing structure, increasing logistical complexity and reducing the efficiency of command, control, and support functions across the entire CENTCOM area of operations.
Military planners now face the challenge of maintaining a high rate of strikes against Iranian targets while simultaneously managing damaged infrastructure, fragmented personnel, and vulnerable communications networks, conditions that increase pressure on operational readiness levels and response times.
The need to evacuate personnel from damaged facilities also increases reliance on temporary accommodation and modified command locations, thus reducing the level of protection and forcing the use of mobile systems to ensure continuity of operations in the face of persistent threats.
Repeated missile and drone attacks on radar, satellite communications, and tactical coordination centers demonstrate that Iran's response is not just targeting political symbols, but is focused on the operational backbone that allows the United States to maintain its military power projection capabilities in the Middle East.
