Iran Launches Hypersonic Missile Attack Towards Dimona After Natanz and Bushehr Were Bombed

Defence affairs - Def-Geopolitics
Iran's retaliatory attacks near the Dimona nuclear facility after the US–Israeli operations on Natanz and Bushehr sparked global concerns over the possibility of the conflict entering the stage of open nuclear deterrence.

Iran reportedly used hypersonic-capable missiles in a retaliatory strike near Dimona, the location of Israel's main nuclear-related facility, injuring at least 20 people after the attack followed a US and Israeli military operation against the Natanz uranium enrichment complex on the same day.

The attack is also believed to be linked to previous US and Israeli operations targeting the Bushehr nuclear facility a few days earlier, indicating that Tehran is now responding to attacks on multiple components of its nuclear program rather than a single incident.

By expanding the scope of the response to include Natanz and Bushehr, Iran is signaling that any attack on its nuclear program will be met with pressure on Israel's most sensitive strategic locations, thus strengthening the cycle of deterrence based on nuclear-related targets.

The use of missiles described as having hypersonic capabilities also intensifies the dynamics of escalation as the high-speed, maneuverable weapons system is designed to penetrate layered air defense networks, thus allowing Tehran to demonstrate that the areas it considers to be the most protected are still within reach.

This attack is considered one of the most dangerous signals of escalation in the current Israeli–Iranian conflict because it links nuclear-related infrastructure on both sides to an active exchange of missile attacks, thus increasing the risk of a shift from conventional response to strategic deterrent confrontation across West Asia.

The incident sparked global concern among defense analysts because Dimona houses Israel's main nuclear research facility, meaning any damage, even indirect, could transform the conflict from a normal military clash to a signal of nuclear deterrence and high-stakes strategic competition.

Early reports of the possible use of hypersonic missiles have further raised concerns among military observers as the maneuverable, high-speed attack system is specifically designed to challenge layered missile defense networks and demonstrate escalation dominance over tactical needs on the battlefield.
